Friends School is a progressive, coed, academically-rigorous day
school serving students from age three through 12th grade. The
campus is located on 140 acres in the historic Sandy Spring area of
Montgomery County, Maryland, and the School is approved by the

and peaceful resolution of conflict. Financial Manager: Contractor
(1099) We are seeking an experienced Financial Manager to support
our organization as a 1099 Contractor for a one-year assignment
with the potential of transitioning into a permanent position. The
Financial Manager supports the school’s CFO and Controller by
providing data-driven insight, financial reporting, and analytical
support. This role helps ensure responsible stewardship of the
school’s financial resources in alignment with its mission,
strategic plan, and long-term sustainability goals. The Financial
Manager works collaboratively with administrators, department
heads, and academic leaders to create financial transparency and
operational efficiency. Responsibilities include: Financial
Analysis & Reporting Work with Business Office’s accounting
department to prepare monthly financial statements,
budget-to-actual results, and variance analyses Provide initial
analysis of latest financial statement package and share findings
with controller and CFO Work with school leadership to improve and
maintain rolling cash flow projections Assist with the development
and maintenance of dashboards and financial reporting tools for the
school’s executive team, board committees, and department managers.
Track key performance indicators relevant to independent schools
(e.g., enrollment trends, tuition revenue, auxiliary program
performance, financial aid metrics). Budget Development &
Monitoring Support the annual budgeting process, including
forecasting, scenario modeling, and liaising with department heads
on budget submissions. Monitor department spending, identify
trends, and provide recommendations to ensure financial objectives
are met. Assist with long-range financial planning models for
tuition pricing, capital improvement tracking, and investment and
endowment performance. Data Management & Systems Support Maintain
financial databases, spreadsheets, and tools used for reporting and
analysis. Work with the Business Office to enhance financial
systems workflows and improve accuracy and automation of financial
processes. Work with other departments to ensure data integrity
across student information systems, general ledger software, and
payroll/HR platforms. Compliance & Audit Support Assist in
preparing materials for the annual audit, financial surveys,
accreditation processes, and regulatory filings. Support internal
control procedures and document workflow improvements. Operational
& Strategic Support Analyze financial implications of programs,
staffing changes, tuition models, and other administrative
initiatives. Conduct research and benchmarking with peer
independent schools. Provide ad-hoc analysis for leadership,
business operations, and Board finance committees. Experience &
Qualifications 3 years of experience in FP&A, corporate
finance, or related financial analysis roles. Strong accounting or
CPA required. 3 years in non-profit / school environment with
strong understanding of grant and donation accounting Proven
experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis,
and executive financial reporting. Advanced financial modeling
skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear,
actionable insights. Solid understanding of GAAP financial
statements and how operational activities impact financial
performance. Experience supporting due diligence, lender reporting,
or strategic finance initiatives is strongly preferred. High level
of proficiency with ERP systems (Sage) and financial analysis
tools; advanced Excel skills required. Hourly Rate: $60-$72/hour
