ASTD7 LOCATION OF POSITION MDH/Division of Vital Records, Vital Statistics Administration, Baltimore, Maryland Main Purpose of Job This position will provide vital records regarding birth, death, marriage, and divorce verification certificates to walk-in customers. This position will also be responsible for general clerical duties, including data entry; recording monies in the EVRS system; filing and retrieving records; and, opening and sorting mail. Additionally, this position will be responsible for preparing reports and for manually processing records. Furthermore, this position will be expected to provide customer service at the front counter of the office. Such service will include verifying customer identification; determining eligibility; generating receipts for monies received; and, handling the delivery of records to customers. Customer service will also be provided over the telephone by answering customer inquiries about the Vital Records' process, along with tracking certificates. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Completion of the eighth grade. Experience: One year of experience performing clerical duties in an office environment. Notes: 1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted, on a year-for-year basis, for the required education. 2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for six months of the required experience. 3. Six months of clerical training, with three courses in subjects, such as Keyboarding; Clerical Math; Word Processing; Spreadsheets; Database; Graphics Presentation; Proofreading; or, Office Etiquette, may be substituted for six months of the required experience. 4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Non-Commissioned Officer in Administration classifications, or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience. DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The desired candidate should have customer service experience, as well as professional experience entering and processing data. LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION This position is limited to current employees of the Maryland Department of Health (MDH)'s Division of Vital Records only.
