Job Description:
The Senior Acquisitions Editor, Corwin Literacy, will play a key
role in the strategic shaping and support of Corwin's outstanding
list of resources for K-12 ELA teachers. This person integrates
their knowledge of literacy markets and trends, the competitive
landscape, research, instructional design, and their authors'
scholarly and creative process to chart a content vision and
content strategy for their list that constituents across the K-12
landscape can understand, support, champion, and implement. This
person is then responsible for signing new authors, developing new
content, and owning and expertly growing a portfolio of existing
authors, content, and active titles in alignment with that
strategy. This person may also have management responsibilities of
an editorial assistant, associate content development editors,
content development editor, or content development manager. This
role may be done remotely.A successful Senior Acquisitions Editor

various digestible formats for multiple audiences* Cares deeply

instructional design relate to product development* Can actively
negotiate with internal and external colleagues to achieve results
and meet deadlines* Is an innovative problem solver who searches
for ways to improve and modernize publishing practices through
various media* Can manage the details on a large volume of products
while balancing strategic ownership and growth of the list(s)*
Shows initiative to work as a team across departments to improve
processes and systems and look for opportunities to reduce costs
and grow revenue* Demonstrates leadership and management
capabilities and seeks to actively support and cultivate others'
professional development* Proven track record in navigating tough
conversations and deliver timely and constructive feedbackESSENTIAL
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESNot limited to the following:*
Owning and strategically growing Corwin's K-12 list of resources
for English-language Arts teachers K-12 by acquiring, developing,
publishing, and launching a designated number of books and related
content annually.* Working with established authors as well as
placing emphasis on finding fresh voices and new perspectives that
represent the gender and racial diversity of the educational
field.* Building strong relationships with authors, guiding them
through the planning, writing, and publishing process to achieve a
shared vision of their work.* Negotiating contracts with authors on
approved projects.* Considering instructional design, visual design
and display elements, and functionality to create best-in-class
professional development content in multiple formats.* Working with
authors and internal colleagues to ensure that content meets Corwin
Literacy's high standards of quality in terms of design, function,
accessibility, usability, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.*
Through a variety of media (videos, newsletters, podcast, social
media, virtual meetings/webinars) and in close collaboration with
authors and Corwin colleagues, cultivating and sustaining a
close-knit community around a list or topic that brings value to
authors, expands brand recognition, and increases the impact of the
Corwin brand.* Staying abreast of and communicating trends,
innovations, and best practices in education that inform
acquisitions, sales, and marketing strategies.* Collaborating with
Corwin editorial, marketing, production, operations, and sales
colleagues to contribute to a high-quality and profitable
publishing program and meet company objectives through
participation in departmental and cross-departmental meetings.*
Representing Corwin at inter-company meetings (sales meetings,
distributor meetings) as well as educational workshops, meetings,
and conferences, both virtually and in-person.* Cultivating
partnerships with educational organizations for the purposes of
co-publishing, marketing, and distribution opportunities.*
Potentially working across departments to support professional
learning services or other media/products that leverage content in
their discipline(s)* Leading, mentoring, and managing colleagues
who may include editorial assistants, associate content development
editors, content development editors, or a content development
manager.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND APTITUDES* Has a tenacious
disposition for scouting and attracting authors with top potential*
Experience in content development and author feedback* Knowledge of
acquisitions, editorial, and production processes* Strong verbal,
written, and presentation skills, must be self-directed, able to
create a plan, prioritize initiatives, and implement independently*
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with multiple
moving parts at the same time* A creative approach; relishes the
opportunity to experiment and try new things* A standout colleague
who values collaboration and brings a willingness to learn from
authors and colleagues* Accepts change and can readily shift in an
ever-changing industry, always considering multiple modalities of
content delivery* Ability to research market trends and competitive
landscape in the education market space* Ability to learn new
technologies and evaluate evolving content/business needs* Deep
understanding of finance, forecasting, and P&Ls* Leadership
skills, management experience, preferred* Ability to exhibit
compassion, emotional intelligence, situational and cultural
sensitivity, and a positive attitude, particularly when resolving
conflicts* Exhibits active listening skills, accepts feedback, and
takes responsibility* Bachelor's degree from an accredited
university preferred* 6+ years' content development and/or
publishing or other relevant experience and 3+ years as an
Acquisitions Editor, preferable.* Proficient with Microsoft Suite,
Adobe and Google DocsTRAVELThis position may require travel to
conferences, Corwin company events or institutes, and site visits

by several factors, including but not limited to skill set, nature
and level of experience, qualifications, and other relevant
considerations.We anticipate the minimum full-time salary range for
this position to be between $95,000.00 - $110,000.00. Please note
that the compensation details listed in U.S. role postings reflect
the base salary only and do not include bonuses or benefits. Your

additional aspects of the compensation/benefits package for this
position during the hiring process. If your desired salary falls
