They bridge the gap between a standing structure and a cleared site, ensuring that the process is not only safe and compliant but also profitable. 1. Core Role: The Demolition Estimator Quantity Takeoffs: Measuring the volume of concrete, steel, and debris to be removed. Asset Recovery: Estimating the "scrap value" of salvaged materials (copper, structural steel) to offset the total bid price. Equipment Logic: Determining if a project requires high-reach excavators, robotic hammers, or manual "hand-demolition" for delicate interior work. 2. Bidding & Estimating Responsibilities Site Inspections: Walking the site to identify "hidden" costs like shared structural walls with neighbors or tight access that prevents large machinery use. Risk Contingency: Factoring in "unknowns," such as buried foundations or soil contamination not shown on original blueprints. Labor Production Rates: Calculating how many square feet a crew can clear per day based on the structure’s complexity. Vendor Leveling: Comparing quotes from waste haulers, landfills, and specialized subcontractors to find the best price-to-reliability ratio. 3. Government vs. General Contracts Feature Government Contracts (Federal/State) General/Private Contracts Selection Criteria Often "Lowest Responsive Bidder" or "Best Value.
