Job Description Job Description The Quality Control Technician will preform quality control testing on approximately 150 Hot Mix Asphalt mixes. Job Duties: - Perform tests on hot mix asphalt (blacktop) as it is being placed to ensure compaction is within specifications as required by applicable Agencies. While doing nuclear readings, work with Roller operators to determine number of passes needed to meet compaction standards. Work on sites with inspectors, consultants and foremen. - Following Agency requirements, cut Cores for composition testing by Asphalt Plants and Agencies. - In support of incentive determinations, follow Agency requirements to take Box Samples from behind pavers as blacktop is being placed. Submit Box Samples to Company labs and to Agency labs for testing. - Solely responsible for checking the gauge in and out. - Any and all other duties as assigned by supervisor. Required Skills: - Solid math skills especially comfortable with percentages. - Communicate effectively to inspectors, consultants, and foreman. - Able to travel to multiple job sites on daily basis. - Comfortable working outdoors at job sites. - Pays attention to detail. - Solid verbal and written communication skills. - Willing to learn. Certificates and/or Licenses: - Must complete Nuclear Gauge Safety class. - Must complete Hazmat Class. - Must complete Maryland State Highway HMA Tester class and pass exam. - Technician must have SHA required amount of QC Tester experience to qualify for Technician designation. - Valid drivers’ license.
