Summary

RK&K is hiring a Designer for our Baltimore, MD office to support Utility design, relocation, and coordination projects using BIM and 3D design tools. This position affords you the opportunity to fully engage in solving complex problems and provide technical evaluation.

Essential Functions:

• Develop technically accurate and deliverable computer-generated construction drawings based on direction and engineering sketches; preparation of contract drawings and color renderings; maintain adherence to company and client CADD standards and procedures
• Support project research, agency requirements, drawing preparation, organizing CADD files, drafts design plans and details
• Use computer-aided drafting software to develop layouts, drawings and designs that meet engineering specifications
• Supports Senior Designer/Project Manager of all disciplines through a variety of tasks including proposal drawings, red marks, and sketches
• Review engineering drawings, analyze design and retrieve information to complete drawing, layout or design
• Possess thorough understanding and efficiency with company drafting standards
• Support surveying data processing and assist in the development of plats and designs using CADD technology
• Use Work Management systems to plan electric/gas projects and associated costs and work schedules
• Performs field survey work to describe location of present and proposed facilities, obstructions and required geographic features. Interprets designs, coordinates and/or approves minor field changes. Job duties may be electric distribution only, gas only, outdoor lighting only or combination gas, electric, and outdoor lighting.
• Applies technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment Required Skills and Experience
  • Education/Experience: High School Diploma and over 2-4 years of job-related work experience, including at least 2 years' experience in the design and drafting of gas and/or electric utility systems; or the equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.
  • Knowledge of mathematics and experience in the application of engineering and construction standards, surveying, and electrical and gas theory necessary to determine design requirements. Familiarity with environmental permitting, rights-of-way requirements, and safety standards and practices.
  • Ability to effectively plan, manage, and coordinate multiple work assignments.
  • Ability to make accurate field surveys; to produce legible, accurate and technically acceptable construction related documents; to develop and produce job drawings using computer aided drafting software.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to use personal vehicle on a regular basis for business purposes.
  • Possesses good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively present information to individuals and groups. Knowledgeable of CADD software applications. Preferred Skills and Experience
    
    Candidates with the following skills and/or experience preferred:
    • Possess thorough knowledge of Auto/Microstation CAD Design
    • Continuing education or college-level training in the use of CADD or equivalent knowledge and or experience
    • Experience in an Architectural, Engineering, Utility and Construction industry
    • Pipeline construction drawing
    • Overhead and Underground electric wiring and cabling distribution systems Other Duties
