Your Opportunity
Our Industrial Water South Business Unit is seeking an experienced
Process Mechanical Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team of
water professionals, each committed to delivering sound and
strategic consulting services to a range of clients. The Industrial
Water South Business Unit consists of more than 75 water
professionals working together to produce high quality deliverables
on projects throughout the region. As a process mechanical
engineer, you will work in a supportive team environment and have
exposure to water infrastructure design projects that include water
and wastewater treatment plants, pipelines, and pump stations. You
will be involved in planning, design, and construction of critical
infrastructure projects, including new facilities and
rehabilitation and upgrades of existing facilities. You will work
with Stantec team members throughout the US and be connected to our
global expertise.
Your Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with local and virtual project teams and senior project
staff to produce high quality work products for our water and
wastewater clients with a minimum level of guidance.
Lead design tasks as part of a project team.
Exercise independent judgment to analyze issues, interpret
information and select methods/solutions to resolve problems and
meet project requirements.
Provide mentoring and informal guidance to junior level staff,
including assigning tasks, coaching, and checking work.
Perform site visits, participate in condition assessments, and
observe construction, as necessary.
Assists with the development of technical specifications required
for a project.
Assists in the evaluation and selection of mechanical systems and
materials.
Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members
and/or external consultants.
Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating
Performs calculations using company standard software and
proprietary manufacturer software.
Ability to perform on-site design services and field engineering
work.
Understand and work within Stantec's quality control
guidelines.
Execute mechanical engineering deliverables on multiple projects in
a dynamic work environment.
Appropriate application of codes and standards (both legislated and
customer-specific).
Develop PFD (Process flow Diagrams) diagrams
Develop P&ID's (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams)
Perform Calculations to specify equipment, i.e., Pumps,
Compressors, Separators, Heaters, Heat exchangers, columns etc.
Prepare data sheets and specifications for equipment
procurement
Perform Hydraulic Calculations, through commercial software
Participate in Hazop Evaluation
Continually acquire new knowledge of and experience with a variety
of innovative technologies, treatment approaches, and design
tools.
Suggest practices to contribute to sustainable development
goals.
Provide technical support on project pursuits in collaboration with
business development leaders.
Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans
and reports for relevant project design elements.
Assists in the development of a design through sketches, electronic
models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
Prepares and revises documentation in various project phases
including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
Coordinates with other disciplines (architectural, structural,
electrical, civil, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design
intent.
Ensure all work is completed with safety of paramount concern.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts of
process/mechanical engineering.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Proficiency with CAD programs such as AutoCAD, Plant3D, P&ID,
and interact with related BIM systems such as Revit and
Microstation in the BIM360 environment.
Proficiency with Review programs such as Navisworks, Bluebeam,
Adobe, etc.
Familiarity with industry standards and applicable ASME, API, ANSI,
NACE codes and standards.
Working knowledge of hydraulics software: Pipe Phase, Pipe-Flo,
Pipe-Sim, Fathom
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Collaboration and teamwork skills.
Ability to multi-task, lead small to medium projects and teams, and
coach and mentor others.
Education and Experience
BS degree in mechanical engineering, or related field,
required.
EIT highly preferred or ability to earn EIT within 6 months of hire
date.
On track to pursue PE License.
5 - 8 years of experience in the planning and design of water,
wastewater, or related infrastructure.
This position will involve a typical office environment working
with computers. Field work may include exposure to the elements
including inclement weather. Staff may also opt to work a portion
of their time at home.
