Specific Duties and Responsibilities
--- Works closely with senior IT, business, clinical, and/or
academic leadership to develop and implement strategic plans that
support the overall goals of the organization.
--- Directs the IT strategy, infrastructure, development and
support within the organization.
--- Develops policies and practices to support organizational
strategy.
--- Participates in the development of white papers and strategic
statements related to technology in support of the
organization.
--- Leads very large scale, complex projects requiring
multi-disciplinary coordination and significant vendor
collaboration.
--- Has day-to-day responsibility for a variety of applications and
technologies that support a wide and diverse customer base.
--- Recognized as an expert in the major IT function(s) in realm of
responsibility.
--- Incumbent may be required to represent the division while
working with external constituencies in the development of policies
and practices that have an impact on the business of the
division.
--- Incumbent may be required to represent senior organizational
leadership in executive meeting within and outside the
organization.
Previous staff management experience required.
Education: Baccalaureate degree, in computer science, business or
clinical related field required.
Experience: Minimum 8-10 years project management experience.
Experience in running a large project from a Project Management
Office perspective or managing a large project team in a large
health system environment
Preferred Job Qualifications: Certification in project
management
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSA's):
Ability to assess risks that impact the project
Ability to lead large multi-disciplinary teams in a matrix
environment
Skilled at problem solving
Skilled in Microsoft Office products including MS Project
When assigned to Epic Clinical Applications:
The current structure for Clinical Applications on the Epic project
has a Director accountable for the development and management of
the Ambulatory component of the EMR, inpatient orders and
documentation, emergency medicine, pharmacy, oncology and
transplant. In this role, the Director must ensure that each of the
individual application managers are working cohesively with their
Business Owners, individual teams and across applications and areas
of integration.
There is a second Clinical Applications Director who oversees the
development and maintenance of Epic ancillary applications which
include the Operating Room, Anesthesia, Radiology and Cardiology
and Homecare. This Director will also oversee the relationship with
Kennedy Krieger Institute and will work collaboratively with all
teams that service that entity. This individual also will oversee
medical device integration for the health system.
Both Directors have accountability to ensure the integration and
clinical integrity of the applications that they oversee as well as
achieving cross-application success.
Candidates for this role will have healthcare clinical software
development and support experience in a large health system with
preference to an academic environment. An Epic certification in at
least one of the applications is preferred as is previous Epic
application experience.
When assigned to Revenue Cycle Applications:
As the Epic Director over the Revenue Cycle applications, this
position is accountable for overseeing the management, planning,
directing and designing of the revenue cycle applications within
the Epic suite of applications. These applications include patient
identity, outpatient and inpatient registration, scheduling, health
information management and hospital and professional fee billing.
Candidates for this role will have specific experience in some of
the represented applications which can be substituted by director
level operational oversight of the specific area within the revenue
cycle. An Epic certification in at least one of the applications is
preferred as is previous Epic application experience.
When assigned to the Project Management Office (PMO) and
Reporting:
This position oversees the PMO office and staff as well as the
Clinical and Revenue cycle reporting groups. The PMO office is
responsible for supporting projects meeting the project criteria by
assisting with compilation of budgets and project plans and
tracking. The office also oversees major upgrades and the
associated testing and command center preparation. In addition, the
oversight of meaningful use resides in this office and coordination
of meaningful use changes in the software as well as integration
with Quality reporting are part of the responsibilities.
