Full Time (40 hours)
Day Shift, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Position Summary:
The Data Scientist is responsible for modeling complex problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques. In addition to advanced analytic skills, the senior scientist is proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets, architecting specialized database and computing environments, developing and applying simulation models, optimization models, and mathematical models to reduce variation and operational inefficiencies within the Johns Hopkins Hospital. The Senior Data Scientist will work closely with the Capacity Command Center Team and clients, data stewards, project/program managers, and other IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound organizational decisions. Other responsibilities will include providing data that is congruent and reliable and, the need to be creative thinkers and propose innovative ways to look at problems by using data mining on the set of information available.
Education:
Masters in mathematics, statistics or computer science or related field; PHD degree preferred.
Work Experience:
Requires 5 or more years of relevant quantitative and qualitative research, modeling, and analytics experience.
Knowledge/Skills:

  • Solid knowledge of statistical techniques.
  • The ability to come up with solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over potentially large datasets.
  • Strong programming skills (such as Hadoop MapReduce or other big data frameworks, Java), statistical modeling (like SAS or R).
  • Experience using machine learning algorithms.
  • High proficiency in the use of statistical packages.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis, quantitative analytics, forecasting/predictive analytics, multivariate testing, and optimization algorithms.
  • In-depth industry/business
  • Must demonstrate strong critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple priorities effectively.
  • Experience leading teams.
  • Ability to prioritize conflicting demands.
  • Ability to execute assigned project tasks within established schedule.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the service of users and colleagues.
  • Possesses sound documentation skills. Writes and communicates clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
