**Ideal role for RN in Acute Care environment to specialize into Wound Care**JOB SUMMARY: The RN I Nurse Resident Wound Specialty program provides dedicated training and education to experienced registered nurses who are novices to the wound care and ostomy environment. Under the supervision of the Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) and/or Wound Care Certified (WCC) Nurse the nurses will be equipped with the fundamental skills and tools critical to providing safe competent patient care. The nurse resident will assist with inpatient consults, so hospital staff can effectively manage patients with wounds, ostomies, and incontinence. While assisting with consults, the intern will be educated by the certified nurses about types of wounds, basic ostomy care, incontinence challenges, treatments, prevention, and various other wound/ostomy/continence related topics. The nurse resident will be required to work and be enrolled in an approved wound care course for either the Certified Wound Care Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) or Wound Care Certified (WCC) certifications.REQUIREMENTS:Basic professional knowledge; equivalent to a Bachelor's degree; working knowledge of theory and practice within a specialized field3-5 years of experienceMaryland Registered Nurse LicenseAmerican Heart Association CPR CertificationEnroll in wound certification course in 6 monthsADDITIONAL COMMENTS:The WCC course requires at a minimum an associates RN degree with 2 years full-time or 4 years part-time where wound care was a component of the job duties in the past 5 years to qualify for certification. Requires completion of course and passing a certification exam. Requires recertification every 5 years.The CWOCN requires a BSN degree, completion of course, completion of practicum ranging from 40-120 hours depending on certification, and passing of exam.
