Our ProfileIn 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to
acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value
uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN
has acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new
gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the
historical "Oko" gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.To
ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining
Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to
fill the position of:Health & Safety EngineerWe are seeking a
highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Engineer to join
our team at our mine site. The successful candidate will be
responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety
protocols, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal
regulations, and promoting a culture of safety on site. This role
involves risk assessments, training, inspections, and close
collaboration with operational teams to minimize accidents and
ensure the well-being of all personnel on the mine site.Key
Responsibilities
- Safety Risk Assessments: Conduct regular and thorough safety
risk assessments, hazard identification, and evaluations across the
mine site to ensure a safe working environment for all
employees.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant
health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and
industry best practices. Prepare and submit reports to relevant
authorities as required.
- Safety Systems Management: Develop, implement, and continuously
improve site-specific health and safety programs, policies, and
procedures in alignment with mine safety standards and
regulations.
- Incident Investigation: Lead the investigation of any
accidents, incidents, or near-misses, identifying root causes, and
implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Training & Education: Develop and deliver safety training
programs and workshops to educate workers on safe work practices,
emergency response procedures, and the proper use of personal
protective equipment (PPE).
- Safety Audits & Inspections: Conduct regular safety audits and
inspections of mine operations, machinery, and equipment, ensuring
they meet safety standards and are in proper working order.
- Emergency Response Planning: Assist in developing and
maintaining emergency response plans, ensuring that all personnel
are familiar with procedures in the event of a fire, equipment
failure, or other emergency.
- Safety Culture Promotion: Champion the development and
maintenance of a safety-conscious culture among all mine employees,
encouraging proactive reporting of hazards and unsafe
practices.
- Data Reporting & Analysis: Maintain accurate records of safety
incidents, training sessions, and inspections. Analyze data to
identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with management,
supervisors, and operational teams to resolve safety concerns and
ensure that safety measures are being followed at all levels of the
mine operation.Qualifications/Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety.
- Certificate in health & Safety (NEBOSH or OSHA or
Equivalent)
- At least 2 years in Senior Health & Safety position within
construction project/mining.
- Strong knowledge of relevant Health & Safety regulations and
standards.
- Willingness to work in a remote location.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Developed interpersonal skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent decision making, problem solving and priority setting
skills.
- Developed cultural awareness and sensitivity.Working Conditions
- Position based at the OKO Project site. Fly-in/Fly-out.
- Work Schedule - 14 days on/7 days Off
- Transport, accommodations, and meals provided on
