Job Description Job Description The Mary Campbell Center is
first, last, and always, home to 68 residents. The Aquatics
Specialist is responsible for leading the Center's aquatics team
members in ensuring these services are delivered with a high degree
of quality in a truly homelike environment in which MCC residents
live with respect, personal dignity, and independence to the
fullness of their abilities. The Aquatics Specialist is charged
with planning, implementing and supervising a diversified set of
aquatics programs suited to the unique needs, abilities and
interests of permanent and respite residents while adhering to the
MCC Guiding Principles and Mission. The Aquatics Specialist must
work reliably, effectively, efficiently, and with respect for
residents, staff, families, volunteers, professional consultants,
and the physical environment of the Center. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
The Aquatics Specialist at the Mary Campbell Center must 1) be a
good person of high character who consistently works with a
positive attitude and demonstrates compassion and understanding for
residents with varying degrees of disability, and 2) possess a
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Bachelor's Degree in
Health Behavioral Science, Certified Clinical Exercise
Physiologist, Medical Exercise Therapist, Therapeutic Recreation or
a related discipline. The Aquatics Specialist must have the ability
to motivate participation, generate enthusiasm, create appropriate
programs and be capable of effectively supervising and training
staff and volunteers. The Aquatics Specialist must hold current
lifeguard, CPR and first aid certifications, along with a pool
operator's certification, have a working knowledge of pool
chemistry and possesses the ability to lift and transfer an adult
by utilizing safe lifting procedures per MCC policy when required.
In addition, he/she should possess verbal and written communication
skills, and proficiency in utilizing technology tools to
effectively manage program reporting and achieve department goals.
Previous successful experience working with persons with
disabilities and/or working in a rehabilitative setting is
preferred. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Plans, organizes and implements a
diverse set of Aquatic programs suited to the unique needs,
abilities and interests of permanent and respite residents and
community program participants. Remains aware of resident's
physical abilities/limitations/changes in medical situations and
reports any change in resident condition to the Neighborhood Nurse.
Ensures resident care needs are met during all activities conducted
both within The Mary Campbell Center and at external events.
Develops written Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals and objectives
to address the unique needs/interests of residents. Evaluates and
compiles resident's participation data. Documents on resident
progress on IPPs goals on a timely basis, as per policy. Serves as
a member of the Interdisciplinary Team and works cooperatively to
solve problems and to address the needs of residents. Attends and
participates in Interdisciplinary team meeting for initial, annual
and quarterly reviews; completes comprehensive functional
assessments as required. Completes staff performance appraisals as
needed. Updates Aquatics Policy and Procedures & guidelines on a
regular basis. Coordinates use of aquatics facilities with
community agencies with assistance from the Director of Resident
Experience Performs routine pool and hot tub maintenance, e.g.,
backwashing, filtering, and adding chemicals, among others, as
needed. Checks/balances pool and HT chemistry daily. Performs
quality assurance audits of Aquatic's Department. Coordinates with
Facility Manager the completion of the annual maintenance of
Aquatics Department. Purchases needed supplies/equipment; keeps
inventory and current accounting of expenses. Makes recommendations
for annual budget needs and supplies. Attends regularly scheduled
Specialists meetings. Assist with the planning and implementation
Special Olympics/MAPTs, 5K, Family Visits or any special event
program offered to support residents recreational or physical
well-being. Ensures trip protocols are followed and completed in
accordance with established Policy and Procedures. Ensures positive
public relations with community volunteers and organizations by
choosing appropriate written and verbal techniques. Transports
residents safely to various community outings using established
vehicle protocol and procedures. Obeys and adheres to all traffic
laws to ensure the safety of the staff and residents. Brings any
safety hazards to the attention of the Assistant Executive Director
or appropriate department head. Completes all mandatory in-services
and attends staff meetings as required. Perform other duties as
