Job Description:
upervises clinical and other administrative functions of an
ambulatory site. Assists physicians and nursing staff in the care
of patients. Performs various patient care activities, including
assisting with patient flow, taking vitals, giving injections, and
other needs as required. Maintains nurses’ stations, exam and
procedure rooms. May direct the activities of Lead Medical
Assistant and Medical Assistants; and other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general
education degree (GED) preferred Current CPR certification required
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program from an
accredited institution. Medical Assistant certification (such as
NAHP, NCCT, AAMA, NHA, AMT, etc.) is required. At least 5 years
medical assisting and medical office experience required Ability to
perform all medical assisting responsibilities under state and
faculty guidelines ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Demonstrates knowledge and
skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient
population(s) served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of
growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability
to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to
his or her population-specific and age specific needs. Provides the
care needed as described in the unit/area/department policies and
procedures. Performs patient care activities such as routine office
testing, patient history and chief complaint intake, administration
of medication, assists with procedures and sterilization of
instruments and equipment. Orients and trains Medical Assistants.
Monitors performances of Medical Assistants. Serves as a resource
for Medical Assistants. Recommends staffing levels, selects and
assigns staff, evaluates performance, evaluates and tests
competencies (as applicable), provides orientation, training and
continuing education of staff, and initiates or makes
recommendations for personnel actions. Demonstrates a commitment to
patient, visitor and staff by; complying with all applicable safety
regulations; learns the impact of medical errors and methodology
that will lead to reduction of errors; reports actual and potential
errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifies opportunities
to standardize processes and “error proof” systems that will lead
to increased safety; and participates in safety education programs
and root cause analyses as required. Performs other duties as
assigned to include clinical rotation to various clinical areas and
MA clinical coverage as needed. Total Rewards The referenced base
salary range represents the low and high end of University of
Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position.
Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the
salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple
factors, which may include the successful candidate’s geographical
location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal
equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/
