Job Description:
Responsible for assisting physicians and nursing staff with
patient care. Responsible for chart management and patient flow.
Performs delegated medical tasks and may perform clerical duties.
Where the electronic system is in use, this position will utilize
the system as documented in the department and/or FPI standard
operating procedure and process; and other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Gathers and documents brief history and chief
complaint in the medical record. Follows established guidelines to
obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the
exam. Prepares patient for examination by the health care provider.
Performs routine office testing, including but not limited to;
phlebotomy, sweat and hydration tests, urinalysis, vision testing,
hearing screening, pulmonary function testing, temperature, pulse
and blood pressure. Assists provider with procedures and minor
surgical procedures. Obtains necessary patient specimens for
diagnostic testing which would indicate the MA should also assist
with obtaining cultures from rectums, vagina, anus, stool, wounds,
throat biopsy specimens, etc. Administers and documents injections
and other medications given Note: The intent of this list of

related duties as assigned. Specific duties and responsibilities
may vary based upon departmental needs. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program from an
accredited institution. Special circumstances to consider an
exception may include: 2 years of supervised work experience in a
medical assisting field. Exemptions will be vetted by Human
Resources Director and Department Director Medical Assistant
certification (such as NAHP, NCCT, AAMA, NHA, AMT, etc.) is
required. Demonstrated skill in venipuncture. Graduation from an
accredited training program (school) or 3-5 years of supervised
work experience in a medical setting. Ability to perform all
medical assisting responsibilities under state and faculty
guidelines. CPR certification required. Total Rewards The
referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of
University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for
this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper
end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on
multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's
geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions,
internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control,
