Reports to Lead Laboratory Technician, Laboratory Supervisor or
Operations Manager. Primary role is to perform phlebotomy
(pediatric and adult), performs EKG's, and maintains established
levels of supplies and inventory. Responsible for initiating or
verifying that proper actions are taken to resolve problems.
Maintains high level of competency for all skills and knowledge
required. Secondary responsibility is to perform Sweat Chloride
Testing and process specimens.
Full-time, Day Shift
9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Work Location: Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center, Express Testing
High school diploma or equivalent including high school level
course work in biology, chemistry and mathematics. AA, Biology
Requires a minimum of at least 100 blood draws as normally acquired
through completion of an approved phlebotomy program. Must be
deemed competent and safe by the Clinical Safety and Training
Coordinator in all relevant Express Testing procedures, which can
include testing on a mannequin arm during the interview
General understanding of anatomy as it relates to phlebotomy.
Ability to read, write and follow written procedures required in
laboratory assignments. Communication and interpersonal skills
necessary to maintain effective technical information exchange with
varied groups. Ability to prioritize work in order to handle both
STAT and routine specimens. Ability to concentrate and pay close
attention to detail under stressful circumstances. Consistently
perform work at a high level, verifying that all patient
demographic data is correct and that subsequent procedures are
performed accurately and safely. Must contribute to presenting a
professional appearance to customers and coworkers.
* Works in laboratory where there are physical discomforts due to
odor, noise, temperature fluctuations, etc.
* Exposure to toxins and infectious specimens exists, but potential
for personal injury or harm is limited if established safety and
health precautions are followed.
* Work may require prolonged sitting and standing/walking.
* Work space is confined; therefore, mobility may be difficult
* Visual acuity to distinguish color or structure for specimen
