Position Summary
The Project Software Safety Engineer serves as a key member of the
Oceaneering Technologies (OTECH) group. Project engineers are
expected to function as SME's on software safety efforts.
OTECH produces and maintains unique underwater systems - typically
for US Navy and other US Government Department of Defense
customers. Our projects are all one-of-a-kind. Projects range from
quick burn to lifecycle management of fielded systems. This
position would yield a solid depth of understanding of software
safety needs to field MIL-STD-882 compliant systems.
Duties & Responsibilities
--- Produce MIL-STD-882 compliant systems.
--- Conduct system safety analysis to ensure issues are identified,
tracked and mitigated.
--- Ownership of the following deliverables
o Software Safety Plans
o Preliminary Hazard List
o Preliminary Hazard Analysis
o Software Safety Assessment
--- Management of software safety testing process, including
o Potential development and automation of testing
o Tracking and reporting of software statement/branch coverage
metrics.
--- Present software safety results to customers.
--- SME in software and systems safety efforts across OTECH.
--- Schedules can be demanding throughout the year and occasional
work outside normal working hours should be anticipated.
--- Light travel should be anticipated.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
--- BS Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Computer
Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or related
technical field. Commensurate experience will be considered.
--- 5+ years of practical experience in software, systems, test, or
quality engineering.
--- Proficiency understanding the following programming languages:
C, C++, C#, Python and/or Java.
--- Capable of producing software safety plans and executing to
them
--- Attention to detail and interest in thoroughly understanding
complex underwater systems.
--- Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Government
Department of Defense Security Clearance.
--- Must be a US citizen.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
--- Understanding of MIL-STD 882E "Department of Defense Standard
Practice System Safety" or equivalent standard
--- Experience conducting software safety hazard analyses such as
Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA),
or Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA)
--- Experience creating System/Software Safety Assessment Reports
and Plans
--- Experience with VectorCAST or automated test tools (Jacoco,
McCabe, MSTest, NUnit)
--- Experience with Jira and Github.
--- Solid written and oral communications skills, including ability
to effectively document, convey, and present engineering concepts
and products to team members and customers.
--- Experience with US Department of Defense programs or the field
of ocean engineering.
Additional Information
This position is Hybrid - Remote and will require commuting to a
designated office. Hybrid work schedules are determined by the
hiring manager based on business need.
