PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION A highly qualified attorney, preferably
with regulatory experience, to handle complex legal matters and
projects on behalf of the Company.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Performs as a specialist in regulatory and administrative law,
including ratemaking proceedings, provides technical and expert
legal services to BGE and has strong comprehension of the electric
and natural gas utility businesses.
- Under minimal supervision, plans, conducts and supervises
complex legal assignments, requiring an ability to evaluate matters
that may have a major bearing on conducting the Company's business;
evaluates both legal and business risks and advises clients
accordingly.
- Interprets and applies organization policy according to
law.
- Represents BGE in agency proceedings and/or relevant
litigation, including before the Maryland Public Service
Commission, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and federal
and state courts of law.
- Prepare and manage budgets for all matters involving outside
counsel and manage outside counsel engagement. -
- Provides lead direction and/or project leadership direction to
less experienced attorneys and support staff
- Projects / duties as assigned
JOB SCOPE
- Supports more senior attorneys in the ongoing management of
relationships and matters on behalf of BGE, including with internal
clients, outside counsel, external stakeholders and state
regulators.
- Demonstrates superior legal judgment in the business
context.
- Demonstrates innovation; generates new ideas and devises
original and successful solutions, programs or actions.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to
practice law in Maryland
- Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of principles,
practices and procedures relevant to the operation and success of a
utility regulatory practice
- Requires excellent legal research, analytical abilities and an
ongoing knowledge of federal or state law, especially regulatory,
administrative, and litigation law.
- Must have the ability to communicate clearly - both orally and
in writing; to read and analyze legal materials and other data; to
work in stressful conditions under time deadlines, including at
times with little or no supervision PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience appearing before state and/or federal
regulators.
- Experience working on or managing rate cases.
- Knowledge of various utility ratemaking structures
- Experience providing direct counsel to clients.
- Experience providing legal counsel to a variety of company
officials with different levels of experience and responsibility,
from individual contributors to senior/executive level personnel.
