like to work on novel legal issues that enable next-generation
technological innovation, we're looking for someone like you to
join our team at APL.We are seeking an Intellectual Property (IP)
paralegal to join our team in the Office of the General Counsel
(OGC) at APL to partner with a team of experienced attorneys in
supporting one of the country's world-class premier research
laboratories.As an IP Paralegal you will...
Provide support to ensure effective
operation of the IP section and other parts of OGC.Serve as a
knowledgeable resource for OGC, Tech Transfer, and inventors and
provide guidance, and ongoing support as needed.Investigate and
resolve patent-related issues in-house and with the USPTO.Draw up
and prepare U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
correspondence, such as responses to Office Actions and information
Disclosure Statements for review by a patent attorney.Prepare USPTO
forms for U.S. and International patent application filings.File
applications, responses, and other forms with the USPTO.Prepare and
input incoming IP disclosures into the Laboratory's IP
database.Produce outgoing legal forms and correspondence for
attorney signature.Review and determine appropriate recipient for
incoming correspondence from the USPTO.Maintain critical
information on patent cases in the Laboratory's IP docketing
system.Run docket reports as needed.Coordinate associated tasks
with other parts of the Laboratory.
Qualifications
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent, with relevant
experience working with IP matters.
- Have a working knowledge of USPTO filing systems.
- Have experience with a patent docketing system (e.g. CPI,
IPDAS), and US patent prosecution and maintenance.
- Possess strong organizational skills.
- Have a working knowledge of software such as Microsoft Office
and Adobe Acrobat.
- Possess strong and effective inter-personal skills, including
excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Have at least one year of paralegal experience or experience
working in a law firm setting.
- Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance
by your start date and can ultimately obtain a final Secret level
clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government
security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for
access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include
U.S. citizenship.You'll go above and beyond our minimum
requirements if you have...
- An Associate's or higher level relevant degree.
- At least three years of experience as an IP paralegal,
preferably with patent preparation and prosecution matters.
- Working knowledge of databases such as Wellspring's Sophia and
Computer Packages Inc. (CPI).
- Knowledge of research and development in a government
contracting setting.The ability to become qualified or are
