Location: Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch, Army Satellite,
Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD SUMMARY Cherokee Nation Strategic
Programs provides all personnel, equipment, supplies, facilities,
transportation, tools, materials, and supervision in support of the
Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch (AFHSB). The AFHSB is the
central, integrated, customer-focused epidemiologic and global
health surveillance resource for the U.S. Armed Forces. The AFHSB
requires a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the field of disease
modeling and prediction who can combine DoD health data with other
available data sources (weather, traffic patterns, etc.) and
develop statistical models to predict disease threats to the
military. This includes forecasting the spread and the severity of
a known disease like influenza as well as predicting where and when
a novel disease is likely to emerge. CNSP is seeking an
Epidemiologist - QA to provided services under this contract
support the Armed Forces Health Surveillance Branch (AFHSB), Public
Health Division, Defense Health Agency. AFHSBs mission is to
provide timely, relevant, actionable, and comprehensive health
surveillance information in order to promote, maintain, and enhance
the health of military and military-associated populations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Support the Army Satellite
Lead to accomplish Army Satellite objectives and mission. Write SQL
code to meet specifications of epidemiological surveillance
projects. Perform quality analysis on code for epidemiological
surveillance projects. Identify deficiencies and lack of
standardization among health surveillance systems and reporting
processes within the DoD. Improve standardization and
interoperability of health surveillance systems and reporting
processes within DoD. Advise team on designing analytic project
plans that minimize epidemiological problems and increases quality
control. Become familiar with quantitative, qualitative, and social
science research techniques and will gain knowledge to coordinate
with quantitative, qualitative, and social scientists to develop
and execute complex, mixed methods, retrospective, and prospective
research projects. Critically assess and comparatively evaluate
health surveillance systems within the DoD to identify gaps and
lack of standardization. Assist in determining the process/method
to be used for establishing standardization and facilitate its
establishment. Promote incorporation of standards into existing and
future health/medical data systems. Represent the Army Satellite at
internal and external meetings as needed. Perform other duties as
needed. SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY None EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE Public health degree (DrPH, PhD) or MPH in a public
health discipline or epidemiology (preferred). A minimum of five
years public health experience desired. Experience with DoD
medical/health databases and surveillance systems. Proficiency in
using SAS, SPSS, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Experience
with SQL and relational databases. Excellent organization skills.
Excellent analytical abilities. Excellent communication (oral and
written) and interpersonal skills. Team player and collaborates
well with professionals. Preferred: knowledge with economic
evaluation/cost analysis. Familiarity with the basic rank
structures of the U.S. military services and civil service. Ability
to work under a federal contract supporting a DoD client,
especially in the handling of sensitive and classified client
information. Familiarity with the Military Health System and
Defense Health Agency required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Existing Secret Clearance desired, existing T3 investigation
required. WORK ENVIRONMENT Climate-controlled office during normal
