Job Description:

This new hire will work in the Hunt Valley Plant located at 11100 McCormick Road in Hunt Valley, MD. The Project Engineer II will report to a Engineering Technical Lead.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overall

  • Leads and manages all aspects of capital project success from inception through completion
  • Assigned projects meet technical requirements and deliver on business needs
  • Effectively communicates key information to sponsor and stakeholders
  • Provides technical leadership and support to Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) teams, operations, maintenance, and engineering colleagues
  • Project work areas will vary between process, packaging, and facilities with projects in multiple areas

Project Engineering Leadership

Provides engineering leadership to the cross functional project team, which may include McCormick salaried and hourly personnel, contractors, and vendor service technicians.

During the project development phase:

  • Develops detailed charter and objectives in an environment where scope and deliverables may be ambiguous
  • Writes technical specifications and standards to meet project deliverables
  • Develops cost justifications, scope, schedule, and budget estimates for capital request packages
  • Drives development of project success criteria for vertical start up and alignment with sponsor and stakeholders
  • Makes Best Value Option Analysis (BVOA) to compare multiple solutions and provides recommendation to leadership

During the project execution phase:

  • Manages project scope, cost, and schedule throughout
  • Evaluates vendor proposals, makes equipment selections, negotiates contracts, enters requisitions, and approves invoices
  • Reviews and approves technical submittals from vendors
  • Plans, develops, and executes Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs)
  • Develops training and knowledge transfer to receiving operations team
  • Provides field installation supervision, leads commissioning and qualification, and field troubleshooting during startup phase
  • Communicates project status to key stakeholders and sponsor

During project closeout:

  • Completes closeout and asset capitalization documentation
  • Ensures that all technical deliverables, cost, and schedule requirements are met throughout the execution of the project
  • Adds value by influencing through innovation and continuous improvement

Project Engineering Methodology

  • Develops and utilizes TPM processes including Early Equipment Management (EEM) pillar tools and methodologies to deliver projects with vertical startups
  • Ensures departmental and plant objectives are met in areas including Safety, Quality, Sanitation, rapid change over, line performance, capital and expense cash flow, and overall capital portfolio management

Non-Project Specific Responsibilities

  • Actively contributes to assigned TPM pillar team and works cross-functionally with other plant, and regional, TPM pillars
  • Identifies, develops, and implements process improvement projects to increase productivity, reliability, sustainability, and cost reduction.
  • Supports a High-Performance Organization (HPO) environment by utilizing a total team approach to capital project execution and process improvements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of project engineering experience in the manufacturing industry. Other engineering roles in a manufacturing environment will be considered
  • Demonstrated leadership, planning, organizing and communication skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects from the evaluation through implementation stages
  • Experience developing project justification and scope documents
  • Experience managing multiple capital project budgets and schedules
  • Contractor management experience; including scoping the work, managing a bidding process, negotiations, field installation supervision, and change order management
  • Experience leading small and large cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, troubleshoot, and solve technical problems.
  • Proficient in Excel, Power Point, MS Project, Word, AutoCAD
  • Must have solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work weekends, varying shifts, holidays as project execution schedules may require
  • Travel will be approximately 10%, but may be higher during specific project phases (i.e. FAT)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Project engineering experience in the food processing, pharmaceutical, facilities, and/or chemical processing industry
  • Knowledge of cGMP systems
  • BS or MS Degree focused in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with dry and liquid processing, facilities, and packaging equipment
  • Knowledge and experience with plant operations and shop floor integration
  • Experience with SAP or a similar ERP system
  • Lean Six Sigma knowledge
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • A strong understanding of sanitary design concepts
  • Experience with maintenance programs and processes
  • Experience with TPM
  • Working knowledge and general understanding of PLC/equipment controls methodology
