CO Clinical Nurse
This position will provide support to the providers and staff of
the Infectious Diseases Division (ID) that broadly involves
coordinating, organizing and participating in the Outpatient
Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) program and ID clinical
activities at the Bayview Medical Center. The Clinical Nurse will
interact with patients regularly, through telephonic and
face-to-face contact, and successfully provide patient care in
support of our ID medical providers.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
In conjunction with ID providers, educate patients about HIV
disease, viral hepatitis, general infectious diseases and other
comorbid conditions, disease state management and prevention,
medication adherence, and effective self-care. Independently assess
laboratory results for abnormalities; communicate abnormalities to
ID medical providers and implement intervention plans when
clinically warranted. Provide clinical triage during clinic hours,
responding to calls and using nursing judgement to assess
Reviews antibiotic usage of OPAT patients, discharged to home
monitoring and those at Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF), and works
with the support team and OPAT ID providers on revised care plans.
Monitor and collaborate with external agencies and community-based
organizations to maintain continuity of care and prudent use of
resources. Collects and reviews health history and medication
information of SNF residents.
Develops and organizes education plans for SNF facility
providers and staff. Tracks SNF quality metrics and antibiotic data
to determine effectiveness of program implementation. Document
patient care interactions including nursing visits, patient
education, telephone contracts, and prescription renewals in the
electronic medical record (EPIC).
Participates in ongoing EPIC training sessions and coursework to
ensure patient interactions and encounters can be successfully
documented and billed appropriately. Work collaboratively with ID
nurses and nurse leaders at other infectious diseases practice
sites. Assists ID providers and Administrative Team with clinic
initiatives, as necessary.
Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline
Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of
Maryland or state where practicing.
Current CPR certification required.
Must maintain current licensure and certification during
duration of employment.
Completion of the JHBMC credentialing process is required prior
to start date.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of Infectious Diseases treatment and resources with
experience in working with a Geriatric population. Ability to work
with culturally diverse patient, staff, and community populations.
Ability to work in multidisciplinary, multi-organizational team

laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving

Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella
(chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the
Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include
documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella
vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory
testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are
ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for
those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization
documentation from their own health care providers. Any
vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost
in our Occupational Health office.
