Job summary:

The Cardiovascular Analytic Intelligence Initiative (CV-Ai2), part of the Blalock-Taussig-Thomas Heart Center in the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a highly qualified Sr. Research Data Analyst to work on NIH funded studies and support the CV-Ai2 analytics needs. Under the supervision of the CV-Ai2 Director, the data analyst primary responsibilities will be the analysis, interpretation, visualization and reporting of scientific findings from multiple clinical studies.


  • Integrate data from various sources for analysis, clean and recode data as needed
  • Extract data from existing databases/infrastructures using SQL
  • Oversee data quality monitoring, including processing, management and cleaning.
  • Preparation of data summaries for research reports
  • Work extensively in Python/R including the development of data functions that manage and analyze data
  • Perform descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analyses using modern statistics and machine learning
  • Communicate results in high-quality tables and figures
  • Develop new data processing routines and new data visualization tools
  • Participate and contribute to methodological research
  • Attend relevant meetings, courses or workshops as needed
  • Assist and mentor junior data analysts, students, trainees, etc with data analyses

Candidates will be asked in interview to demonstrate the ability, through previous experience, to complete an analytic project from end-to-end (analytic plan, data processing, analysis, visualization, report preparation)

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business Analytics, (Applied) Data Science, or relevant quantitative discipline required.
  • 1 year related experience. Require highly specialized advanced knowledge, education and/or training in a specialized field of study to conduct research.
  • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred qualifications:

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience with real-world clinical/medical data (e.g. irregularly-measured data with measurement error and missing values)
  • Evidence of advanced health or clinical research statistical skills (course work and practical experience) including competency in methods for handling sparse data with missing values Content expertise on cardiovascular disease a definite asset
  • Proven ability to work with students/staff with limited statistics knowledge an asset
  • Excellent proficiency in statistics and machine learning using R and/or Python (preferably both) required
  • Knowledge of analytic methods for time-to-event (survival) and time-series data required
  • Working knowledge of SQL a definite asset
  • Working knowledge of HPC platforms a definite asset
  • Working knowledge of SAS and SAS macros an asset

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
