Title
Inspector, Utilities
Summary
RK&K is hiring a Utility Inspector to and strengthen our
construction management/inspection business in Garrett, Allegany,
and Washington counties (MDOT SHA District 6).
In this role, you will inspect and give technical direction of
Utility Permits, District Office Permit, Residential Access
Permits, Commercial Access Permits, and Lane Closure Permits. Come
join our highly respected Construction Management team.
Basic Responsibilities
As a Utility inspector you will perform complex and routine
inspections of construction to evaluate if appropriate materials
and construction processes are being used; and that construction
conforms to plans, specifications, and special provisions. You
will:
Review drawings to prepare for the inspection. Understand the
design of the construction that will be inspected
Create daily reports, document the results of the inspection, and
maintain organized, detailed, and up to date field files
Administer and implement the quality assurance/quality control
programs of the client and/or contract
Perform materials testing and sampling to meet QC/QA
requirements
Conduct field measurements to establish quantities for pay item
documentation as well as other contract administration
documentation
Required Education and Experience
Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in materials,
standards, and specifications related to state highway projects and
facilities
Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high
school equivalency certificate
Must be able to operate basic Microsoft Office Applications, Laptop
and iPad
Inspection experience including roadway, asphalt, concrete,
pavement markings, drainage and utility construction methods
Excellent communication skills
Willingness to work nights and weekends as required by the
project
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and
specifications
Capable of working independently on small construction projects
Ability to pass Criminal History Background Check (CHBC)
Valid driver's license and favorable driving record
Preferred Education and Certification
MDOT and other local public agency experience desired
MDOT Material Certifications are a plus (Asphalt, Concrete,
Pavement Marking, Soils, Intermediate Traffic Control Certified,
etc.)
RK&K also hires and provides training for those with related
experience such as contractors, veterans, designers, and
surveyors.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently
exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and
vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of
extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in
the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position
regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside
conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and
exposure to dust and asphalt.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be
exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions. The
noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to
loud. The employee may need to move and lift field equipment and
tools. The employee may need to use a variety of safety equipment,
including harnesses, scaffolding, etc. This position is performed
in outside weather conditions.
