General Summary:The Life Enrichment Assistant – HC is responsible for supporting the overall planning and implementation of therapeutic activities designed to meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of Health Center residents (Aspen Place & Cedar Place). Primary Job Duties:

  • Lead a variety of activities as scheduled on the monthly calendar. With supervisor permission, can be changed to allow for spontaneity in the schedule.
  • Assists with planning, coordinating activities: Cognitive, physical, social activities; reminiscence, creative arts, discussion groups; sensory stimulation, cultural activities, religious services, entertainment, community outings, special events, and individual visits, as indicated in conjunction with the Life Enrichment Coordinator.
  • Ensure resident attendance in programs reflect their personal interests, or as recommended by the Life Enrichment Coordinator or member of the care plan team.
  • Actively engage all residents throughout sessions utilizing various techniques such as calling their name, verbal prompting, and physical prompting. Know resident history to include non-verbal residents in discussion groups.
  • Provide one to one activities or visits as scheduled which relate resident interests as determined from the activity assessment (Targets residents who choose not to attend group programs on a regular basis.
  • Maintain accurate records of participation through written medical records on Cedar Place. Maintain daily written records on Aspen Place until electronic medical records are implemented on the assisted living floor.
  • Utilizing a computerized calendar template to complete monthly calendars by the 15th of each month for review by the Life Enrichment Coordinator.
  • Ensure new resident activity monthly calendars and daily sheets are distributed to each room in a timely manner. (By the last day of the current month)
  • Maintains all supplies in working order in a neat and organized manner to include activity rooms, carts, office area and storage areas.
  • Assists with coordination of resident outings and events in community to include collaboration with nursing department, transportation department and dining services as needed.
  • Actively supervises residents when they are in the community.
  • Completes various forms for dietary requests, space requests, room set ups transportation and etc. a month is advance of events.
  • Assist in the training of new employees and volunteers within the department.
  • Attend all required meetings and in-service training sessions. Secondary Job Duties:
  • Assist residents to and from activities.
  • Prepare for programs in advance of the scheduled activity.
  • Set up and clean up decorations and supplies in a timely manner based on events and holidays.

  • Accomplishes all work in the order of priority set by supervisor.
  • Observes all safety rules and regulations.
  • HIPAA Compliance – Follows written policies and procedures to ensure confidentiality of protected health information.
  • OIG Compliance – Follows written policies and procedures to comply with the federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Interacts with residents and coworkers in a friendly and respectful manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: High School degree required. Certification and/or minimum of three (3) years' experience in a social or recreational program in a licensed health care setting preferred. Background in dementia programming preferred. Basic computer knowledge with Microsoft Office is necessary, and ability to learn electronic medical record processes. Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skill are required.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting for approximately 60% of work day. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to push residents weighing up to 250 lbs. in gerichairs and/or wheelchairs. Must be able to read and speak English, hear, and be able to sit and walk intermittently throughout the day. May be exposed to communicable diseases, HIV and Hepatitis B viruses, industrial and household chemicals, offensive odors and combative behavior.
