summary/purpose: The Web Specialist will advance a strong online
presence for Jhpiego by maintaining various corporate websites with
fresh content and effective functionality. The Specialist will work
closely with the Global Engagement and Communications team to
ensure sites accurately reflect Jhpiego's goals, objectives and
identity. The Specialist will also help execute email
communications, driving traffic to Jhpiego's various websites, as
well as online fundraising campaigns and digital communications.
Specific duties & responsibilities:
- Regularly update site content (on various corporate websites
(external/internal) as well as design/develop new landing pages for
various online campaigns
- Design, develop, test and execute email campaigns utilizing
MailChimp and/or Luminate Online (a proprietary fundraising and
communication platform)
- Creates strong creative visual design solutions and strategies
for communications web projects based on modern web standards and
technologies, design philosophy, and expertise
- Deliver high-quality work on tight deadlines, with the ability
to quickly iterate and incorporate feedback and new ideas from
other designers, developers, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with back-end developers to improve website
usability, accessibility, and performance.
- Recommends and defends decisions that best fit the needs of
diverse projects based on a strong understanding of best practices,
while considering user experience, site usage analytics,
information architecture, and other technological requirements and
limitations
- Manage email lists and segments within MailChimp and/or
Luminate Online
- Collaborate with fundraising team on regular donor campaigns
(ranging from custom landing pages to mini-sites, donation pages
and other custom content)
- Create templates and optimize graphics for websites, social
media and email campaigns
- Make strategic suggestions on content, design and functionality
of emails to produce best-in-class products
- Redesign emails on a regular basis to ensure fresh, appealing,
on-brand content
- Work collaboratively with writers, editors, project managers,
graphic designers and web designers in an efficient and effective
manner on multiple projects, with both short and long term
deadlines
- Attend internal client meetings as needed
- Monitor performance and results on various websites,
identifying and evaluating improvement options, introducing new
technology, maintaining links, performing updates, etc.
- Maintain site appearance by developing and enforcing content
and branding guidelines
- Collect, analyze and summarize e-newsletter performance data
and trends to improve user experience, open rates and click
throughs
- Provide information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing
web data and trends
- Design and develop banner ads, slideshows and other interactive
content for our websites
- Ensure online content is aligned with Jhpiego's creative
approach
- Help set, and work to, SEO performance indicators that
complement overall marketing and business objectives
- Examine and analyze site traffic and build systems and
protocols internally that ensure all content is optimized across
all platforms and user experiences
- BA/BS in communications, web design, marketing or related
field
- 2+ years of experience in web design and production
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and
additional related experience may substitute for required
education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency
formula.
- Front- and back-end experience with an emphasis on front-end
development in a Wordpress environment or other Content Management
System, as well as proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience with web protocols such as CSS, HTML, and responsive
design
- Proficiency in using monitoring and web analytics tools such as
Google Analytics
- Proficiency working in development and live environments,
performing routine maintenance and security updates, and
troubleshooting errors
- Familiarity with email deployment platforms like Mailchimp,
Luminate, Constant Contact, Bronto, or similar
- Familiarity with Pantheon, Sharepoint and Blackbaud products is
preferred
- Must be passionate about the web and demonstrate a willingness
to stay up to date with an ever-changing list of best practices,
new technologies, and new ideas.

skills
- Ability to work independently and be a thoughtful collaborator
and team member
- Ability to manage several activities simultaneously
- Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks
and short deadlines
