Position Summary:
Peer Recovery Coach (PRC) provides screening, brief intervention,
and referral to treatment for patients with active substance use
and substance use history. Must have highly effective interpersonal
communication skills to interact with inter-professional staff,
patients, families, visitors, and other hospital employees. Must
have the ability to work as part of a team and function as a
liaison in the provision of support services to adults and their
family. Must be able to collaborate with a team to form a
transitional plan to support and facilitate access to a recovery
program. Must be able to manage time and set priorities for
tasks.
Must have the ability to work with minimal direct supervision and
be able to identify and take initiative in solving problems to
contribute to productive outcomes. Functions as a role model to
patients with substance use or co-occurring mental health disorders
in order to facilitate access to transitional care services.
Education:
Diploma/Certificate/GED required
Work Experience:
Minimum of one year experience working with adults with substance
use disorders. Must have lived the experience of substance use and
have one year of paid or volunteer work experience with adults with
substance use disorders and/or co-occurring mental health
disorders. Experience in medical settings or Emergency Departments
preferred.
