Are you looking for a Challenge? Looking for an innovative organization and the opportunity to learn and grow professionally? Our client is currently seeking a Special Security Officer. The ideal candidate will possess the experience, vision, commitment, and integrity to successfully support the strategic goals of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T). This role serves to ensure that all appropriate security procedures are followed on-site and acts as a primary resource for all security-related matters. By overseeing the proper execution and maintenance of all security matters, this role works to ensure that all on-site operations proceed with the appropriate safeguarding of information. This position is onsite in Aberdeen, MD or offsite with travel.
In this role you will be expected to:

  • Provide administrative and security support for on-site bilateral meetings as necessary.
  • Provide and develop personnel annual security training.
  • Conduct analytic assessments of work plans and progress reports.
  • Ensure that all necessary administrative and security procedures for meetings are followed, including managing clearance and visit requests, and escorting visitors.
  • Perform Special Security Officer (SSO) duties to include:
    • Serving as access control manager and Operations Security (OPSEC) control manager.
    • Verifying clearances for all OPSEC equipment.
    • Coordinating all necessary security preparations for meetings and visits.
    • Drafting and sending visitor requests for employee visits.
    • Preparing security reports to SSO.
    • Escorting visitors.
    • Performing general security procedures such as safe and lock maintenance, confirming classification markings for classified documents, burning and scanning CDs, and destruction of all classified materials.
    • Assisting SSO in scheduling and conducting SCI in docs.
    • Preparing and maintaining courier cards and records.
    • In/out processing of employees for DHS suitability.
    • Serving as property manager.
    • Preparing appropriate forms for IT systems of various classifications.
      Required Qualifications:
      • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or Associate's degree and a minimum of 7 years relevant experience.
      • Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
      • Applicants selected must have Top Secret Clearance and ability to obtain DHS access to Secret Compartmentalized Information (TS/SCI) and DHS Suitability.
        Desired Qualifications:
        • Programmatic or management experience supporting DoD and/or DHS components (e.g., TSA, CBP, FPS, CISA, CWMD, USCG, ICE).
        • Ability to work in a dynamic team-oriented environment, demonstrate teamwork and initiative, and function productively in the face of new assignments and the re-prioritization of existing assignments.
        • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks.
        • Strong communication and writing skills, targeting both technical and non-technical audiences.
        • Knowledge of change, risk and resource management.
        • Demonstrated experience facilitating, documenting and producing follow up materials for collaborative meetings.
        • Experience providing guidance, feedback, and consulting services to federal program managers.
        • Experience preparing and reviewing presentations, reports, project schedules and weekly status inputs.
        • Strong communication and writing skills, targeting both technical and non-technical audiences.
        • Microsoft Office (especially PowerPoint, Excel, and Project)
        • Top Secret Clearance and DHS access to Secret Compartmentalized Information (TS/SCI) and DHS Suitability.
