This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading team that provides environmental solutions to the public and private sectors throughout the State of Maryland.Job Description:Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for an Architectural Historian (Lead Environmental Specialist) for the Environmental Monitoring Division of MES at the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (SHA) office in Baltimore, MD. Duties involve planning, supervising, and conducting in-house surveys for historic structures, buildings, and bridges as well as managing and reviewing the work of consultant architectural historians for compliance under federal and state laws and regulations. The selected candidate will prepare cultural resources assessments for Maryland Transportation Authority (MdTA) and SHA projects, develop scopes of work for surveys, prepare requests for proposals, review and recommend approval of proposals.Estimated Pay Range: $61,229 - $84,188 Benefits:

  • Tuition assistanceMinimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation or a related field from an accredited college or university plus five years of experience with Section 106, two years of which must have included responsibility managing architectural history projects and completing Determinations of Eligibility. Applicants may substitute an applicable advanced education degree for up to two years of experience. Must have a valid driver's license with less than 5 points, the ability to lift 50lbs, and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Preferred candidates will have experience in Maryland architectural history, transportation agency experience a plus.
