Serves as communication resource and coordinator of information for
patients, families, visitors and members of the health care team.
The Patient Information Coordinator handles all non-clinical
administrative aspects of the patient care unit. Performs clerical
and support duties necessary to prepare and maintain inpatient and
outpatient medical records. Performs a variety of integral
activities to assist medical, nursing and administrative staff to
meet unit, department, and institutional needs. Offers friendly and
courteous assistance to every patient, their families, and health
care team members to ensure a collaborative environment in which
patients may have a positive experience while at Johns Hopkins.
Knowledge of business, insurance, and/or medical terminology and
the basic knowledge necessary to perform duties of a clerical
nature to include filing, photocopying documents, basic typing, and
use of computer terminal as normally acquired through one to two
years of related experience.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Demonstrated reading and writing level as necessary to read and
complete forms, requisitions, instructions, etc.
Six months of related experience.

Analytical ability to organize work, set priorities, perform duties
simultaneously, and effectively function in stressful situations,
including maintaining personal composure.
Highly effective verbal and written communication skills to
coordinate/provide information to patients, families, and the
health care team.
Highly effective interpersonal skills necessary to interact with
patients, visitors, and other health care team members.
Demonstrated professional phone etiquette/screening skills.
Ability to document legibly with a writing instrument.
Ability to demonstrate and convey a favorable image of the
organization and to conform to proper standards of professional
dress, attitude, and demeanor.
Required Licensure, Certification:
Works in a nursing unit/clinic environment where there are no
physical discomforts due to temperature, noise, dust, etc.
Work requires visual acuity.
Work requires standing, walking and/or sitting for extended periods
Work requires transporting wheelchairs, beds, and related
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials,
and pharmacological agents, with little likelihood of harm if
established health precautions are followed..
Work requires use of typewriter or computer monitor for long
periods of time.
Employees in this position will be required to adhere to work
availability and unit scheduling requirements. This may include but
is not limited to availability status, mandatory overtime, on call,
and shift work.
