Job ID: 1568Location: Preston, MarylandCategory: Information TechnologyOverview Choptank's IT Service Desk Technician will be responsible for providing IT support to Choptank Transport employees who are experiencing any procedural or operating difficulty with the use of IT applications, products, or services. The IT Service Desk Technician is responsible to ensure that an effective solution is provided in a timely fashion to users. Responsible for supporting IT functions at the corporate office as well as regional offices.Choptank is a Third Party Logistics (3PL) provider, meaning we connect customers who have products to move with appropriate carriers and equipment, to provide the most efficient and cost-effective supply-chain solution. Our customers want to focus on crafting and selling their products, not looking for trucks to move it and hoping they get a fair price for the shipping. We take that worry off their plate and get them the best deals in the market. We offer solutions and give them results.Responsibilities Essential Functions:Primary contact for answering, evaluating and responding to service desk requests for assistance from users experiencing problems with hardware, software, networking and other computer-related technologies.Records required customer and problem information in Choptank Transport's ticketing system. Updates tickets with appropriate entries of activities and closes tickets with resolution entered upon completion of the job.Determines the most effective manner to resolve customer's technical issue. Contacts end users to collect information about problems and leads users through diagnostic procedures to determine the source of error. Engages in research and troubleshooting to resolve technical issues. Consults with senior IT Staff when necessary. Elevates complex and/or high priority problems to the appropriate support groups for resolution.Verifies that suggested solutions effectively resolve user problems through verbal or email follow up.Analyze problems and designs solutions/how-to documents and populates Choptank Solutions database.Ensure all new employees have necessary equipment, access, and permissions on their first day.Represent the IT function at customer meetings when appropriate.Assist 2nd and 3rd level technicians as required.Keep current with the latest technologies and look for uses within our company.Competencies:Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiencesOutstanding organizational skills including time management and the ability to manage multiple prioritiesSolid research skills and abilitiesStrong technical knowledge of telecommunications, network, and PC operating systemsStrong written and verbal communication skillsBasic programming knowledge and abilityDesire and ability to work flexible hours when needed Available after hours for consultations as neededFriendly, diligent, trustworthy, with a strong aptitude to learn new technology and systemsCommunication Skills:This position requires handling confidential information in an appropriate manner. Customer interactions must be handled with diplomacy and tact. Individual must be able to gauge the customer's technical ability and communicate with them in appropriate technical or non-technical language in a non-condescending manner. Qualifications Preferred:Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related fieldMinimum of 2 years' experience in Information TechnologyExperience in all Windows based operating systems, Microsoft Office systems and setupsExperience with Windows Networking, Windows Security, Windows Application Management, Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange Server and SQL ServerExperience with computer maintenance and repairIT experience in a transportation environment is helpful but not required.
