Job Description:

Location: Baltimore MD Job Purpose: 4S - Silversword is seeking a Physics Technician to work with our Applied Physics Division (APD) on new product development efforts. The Physics Technician will perform modeling, analysis, and measurement of design requirements. Additional duties will include building optical, mechanical, and other as required to support APD contracts. Work will be performed in a laboratory environment with a variety of moderate to complex tasks and functional activity. Job Duties Include: The following reflects management's definition of preferable functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign additional duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons. New technology prototype assembly and test:

  • Assist in the development of novel new designs of critical components for contracts and internal R&D projects
  • Clean and assemble optical and mechanical assemblies
  • Perform measurement and testing of components and assemblies as required
  • Familiarity with laser and precision optics handling.
  • Assist in writing reports, operational documentation, and other documents as required.
  • Ability to work with test equipment including oscilloscopes, optical power meters, laser beam analyzers, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned Skills/Qualifications: Excellent communication and problem solving skills, attention to detail and accuracy, solid judgment and decision-making ability, takes initiative, and is adaptable. Military Facility Access: Must be able to qualify for and obtain a military base access pass. Clearance: A security clearance is not required for this position at this time. US Citizenship is required. Education and Experience: This position requires:
    • A bachelor's degree or course work from an accredited institution in Physics, Optics, or other related field.
    • Experience with opto-electronics is a plus.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, COMSOL Multi-Physics, SolidWorks, Mathematica software is desirable.
    • Experience in or work for the U.S. military is also highly desirable.Competencies:
