Job Description:
Description Position Summary The Employment Specialist will use
person-centered and community employment planning to assist those
we support in maintaining employment positions in the community.
Provides a variety of flexible supports to help those we support
maintain successful employment. Develops and maintains positive
relationships with area businesses. Uses resources and connections
to identify and pursue job leads for people supported. Demonstrates
a commitment to employment as the first option for all people.
Position Responsibilities Model and apply person-centered
practices, supporting people with I/DD in making informed
decisions, taking risks, developing strategies, following through
on responsibilities, and achieving their personal goals. Provide
ongoing support and advocacy for people working in community
settings, ensuring long-term success and inclusion. Conduct
assessments of interests, experiences, needs, availability, and
transportation limitations to identify and develop feasible
employment opportunities. Maintain a strong working knowledge of
employee rights, especially under the Americans with Disabilities
Act (ADA), to ensure workplace protections and fairness. Build and
sustain relationships with community partners, vendors, families,
service agencies, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration
and support. Promote on-the-job independence by encouraging the
development of interpersonal and workplace skills and facilitating
the creation of natural supports. Utilize technology tools (email,
text, video chat, apps) to maintain regular, effective
communication with people served, families, employers, and
community partners. Conduct job analyses and work collaboratively
with employers to build and maintain meaningful business
relationships in the community. Monitor, document, and report
progress toward each person's employment and personal development
goals on an ongoing basis. Apply proactive and collaborative
strategies to prevent and manage crises effectively, ensuring the
safety and well-being of those supported. Maintain accurate
documentation and submit required reports, data, and records
promptly and in compliance with organizational standards. Pursue
ongoing professional development, maintain required certifications,
and seek opportunities for continued learning and growth. If not
already certified, complete the required employment support
training and pass the Certified Employment Support Professional
(CESP) exam within the first year of employment. Qualifications At
least 18 years old GED or high school diploma Technical knowledge
to operate a computer and a smartphone to perform essential job
functions Experience working with people with intellectual
disabilities Valid Maryland driver’s license and daily access to an
insured vehicle to travel Ability to complete all COMAR and
agency-required training Clear and effective oral and written
communication skills Time management and customer service skills
General understanding and use of Microsoft Office applications,
particularly Excel
